The Melattur Kaipulli Temple
The Kaippully Vishnu-Vettakkaran Kshetram is dedicated to Maha Vishnu. It’s located in Melattur in Malappuram district of Kerala. This ancient temple is also well known for its sub-deities mainly Vettakkaran (Vettakku Oru Makan). Thiruvalayanadu Bhagavathy, Lord Ganapathy and Sree Dharmashasta are the other sub-deities. The temple is known for its two main festivals, the Kalam Paatu and Bhagavatha Saptaham, which takes place every year.
About The Temple
Kaippully Vishnu-Vettakkaran Kshetram is situated in Melattur in Malappuram district of Kerala. Maha Vishnu is the presiding deity of this temple which is believed to be around 250-300 years old. The sub-deities are Vettakkaran, Thiruvalayanad Bhagavathy, Lord Ganapathy and Sree Dharmashasta. It's the general belief that prayers to Maha Vishnu will lead to spiritual upliftment, while prayers to Vettakkaran is beneficial for material aspirations. Festivals
The main festivals conducted in the Kaippully Vishnu-Vettakkaran Kshetram are the Kalam Paatu and Bhagavatha Saptaham, which happens every year.
Events
In the olden days, important rituals like the Paatu Ulsavam (Vettakkaran Paatu) and Annadanam were conducted on a grand scale under the able guidance of the temple authorities. Over the years there was a gradual erosion in the ways of the temple. In order to improve the situation, the temple Management Committee under the guidance of N.N.Rajivji decided to conduct the ritual of Ashtamangalya Prashnam. The Devaprashnam was conducted under the spiritual leadership of Shri Mallapally Narayanan Namboodiri. During the course of the ritual it was revealed that it is imperative to give Vettakkaran a status equal to Maha Vishnu, the presiding deity of the temple. The Devaprashnam also suggested that the Sreekovil (Sanctum Sanctorum) should be constructed with a Paatu Pura. It was further stipulated that the rituals of Vettakkaran Paatu and Pantheerayiram (the hymns of Vettakkaran) should be conducted along with the breaking of 12,000 coconuts in order to sanctify the temple.
Devaprashnam
The temple Management Committee has already started work on this project and it is proceeding at a steady pace.
